Jesse Berdis

Deputy Project Manager, Mobile Launcher 1 Element Artemis II

Jesse Berdis is the deputy project manager for the mobile launcher 1 (ML1) element Artemis II modifications project in NASA’s Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) Program at Kennedy Space Center. Appointed to this position in 2020, he provides leadership in development activities of the ML1 in design, development, fabrication, construction, and testing of the ML structure, ground support systems, and facility systems. 

Experience

Beginning his NASA career in 2013 as a Pathways intern, Berdis worked in the Construction of Facilities (CoF) branch before being appointed to his current position. He supported various projects in the CoF branch, including serving as construction manager for ground support equipment installation of the ML1, construction manager for the Vehicle Assembly Building platforms fabrication and installation for the Space Launch System, lead design engineer for the flame trench and flame deflector at Launch Complex 39B, and lead design engineer for the Launch Control Center’s Firing Room 2. During his career with NASA, he has gained experience of ground support infrastructure integration and operations and has firsthand experience in government contracting and management.

Awards

Berdis has received numerous awards, including the Space Flight Awareness Trailblazer Award, Silver Group Achievement Medal, and NIFS Mentor of the Year Award.

Education

Berdis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in architectural engineering in 2011 and a Master of Science degree in structural engineering in 2013 from the University of Oklahoma.

Personal

Berdis was born in Trenton, New Jersey, but grew up in McKinney, Texas. He moved to Florida to work for NASA in 2013 and resides in Cape Canaveral, Florida, with his girlfriend and their Sheepadoodle puppy, Peppermint. He is an avid runner and enjoys all activities outdoors, especially seeing the world through his travels.
