Professional Biography

Jim Murphy serves as the acting Chief Engineer for the Air Mobility Pathfinders Project. Under this role, he provides technical guidance for the execution of simulations and flight-testing activities intended to collect data in support of the development of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) prototype technologies and services while informing validation of system architectures. Jim also serves as the System Architect for NASA’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Mission, leading the development of a Model-based Systems Engineering approach to capture candidate system-level requirements and architectures for medium density AAM operations.  Prior to AAM, Jim led the design and development of a Live, Virtual, Constructive test environment used to test Detect and Avoid performance standards. He has been researching and developing air traffic management related software systems for over 30 years.
