Jim Mahoney

Jim Mahoney is the Chief Counsel of the NASA Office of JPL Management & Oversight (NOJMO) at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California. The NOJMO at JPL is composed of a cadre of NASA specialists, including lawyers, who manage NASA’s only Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC).  JPL operates under a $30 Billion NASA contract with the California Institute of Technology (“Caltech”) and performs cutting edge space research and technology development, and often leads NASA’s planetary science missions involving robotic exploration of the solar system.  JPL also designs and operates NASA’s deep space communication network (DSN) with locations around the globe. Jim’s work includes advising NASA Headquarters and the NOJMO Director and staff in all legal aspects of JPL’s operation, and negotiating and administering the government contracts. Jim’s office is integrated with the NASA Office of General Counsel (OGC), with headquarters in Washington, DC.
