NASA’s agency chief technologist (ACT), as part of the Office of Technology, Policy, and Strategy (OTPS), is working across the agency to establish a sustainable technology inventory and analytics process that will support data-driven decision-making and improve transparency to industry, government, academia, and the American public.
As “principal advisor to NASA senior leadership…on matters concerning agencywide technology policy and programs,” the ACT is optimizing the agency’s understanding of its technology investments, and closely collaborates with NASA’s public-facing technology database, TechPort, to ensure a comprehensive and robust data collection and quality process.
The goal of the annual technology inventory and analytics process, called TARDIS, is to:
- Refine and collect an updated inventory of NASA’s current technology investments
- Conduct analysis on the projects and programs within the portfolio
- Annually report on the state of the agency’s technology portfolio to NASA senior leadership with an option to have a version available to additional stakeholders
OTPS aims to provide an annual public snapshot summarizing the technology investment across the agency.
