The week of May 14 is going to be busy at the NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor.

The Visitor Center will be closed May 14 – 16 for the installation of a new Rocket Engineering exhibit and outdoor interpretive signage. It will re-open on Thursday, May 17.

The second astronomy night for 2018 will be held from 7:30 to 10 p.m., Friday, May 18.

Visitors can start the night with an Astronomy 101 lecture presented by a NASA informal educator at 7:30 pm, then head outside to gaze through high-powered telescopes provided by the Delmarva Space Sciences Foundation. Objects of interest will include Jupiter, Venus, the moon and the Hercules cluster (M13). This event is weather dependent.

The week concludes with the launch of Orbital ATK’s Antares rocket carrying cargo to the International Space Station at 5:04 a.m., Sunday, May 20. The Visitor Center opens at 1 a.m. on launch day to support public viewing of the launch. The Visitor Center viewing location is a great site to experience launches. It is recommended you arrive a few hours in advance of launch time.
All events are free and open to the public. Space is limited.

The NASA Visitor Center, located on Va. Rt. 175 about six miles from U. S. Route 13 and five miles from Chincoteague, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
