FAIRMONT — NASA’s Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) Program in Fairmont has released its Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2021, documenting successes in safety, mission assurance, workplace innovation, and outreach.
The FY2021 Annual Report highlights specific details of IV&V’s contributions to major NASA missions such as the Perseverance Mars Rover, Lucy asteroid mission, Landsat 9, and the James Webb Space Telescope, which launched on Christmas Day.
“Inside this Annual Report, you will find detailed information about all of our IV&V work on NASA missions over the last year, our educational outreach, communications efforts, economic impact on the State of West Virginia, and celebrations of our best and brightest of which I am very proud,” newly installed IV&V Program Director Wesley Deadrick said.
In addition to mission work, the IV&V Program welcomed 20 diverse students for internships throughout the year from New York, Connecticut, California, West Virginia, Indiana, and Texas, and continued to champion STEM and robotics outreach for area students.
In FY21, NASA civil service employees residing in West Virginia earned approximately $8.4 million in labor income, and as detailed in the report, the total economic impact resulting from these activities when multipliers are applied is estimated to have generated $4.3 million in tax revenues for the state and local governments in West Virginia.
The accomplishments at the IV&V Program this last year went hand-in-hand with its program value of innovation. Continuing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Future of Work, and changing leadership were all part of the IV&V journey, which is described in this report.
“In the midst of so much transformation, one thing remained constant,” said Former Director Greg Blaney, who retired at the end of 2021. “The IV&V Program’s commitment to mission success with a high quality of service when it comes to assuring mission-critical systems and software.”
