NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland is celebrating NASA’s 60th Anniversary with two events Saturday, Sept. 29:

- an anniversary celebration in the NASA Glenn Visitor Center at Great Lakes Science Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Media are invited to attend both events.
Along with their guests, a limited number of individuals who received Golden Astronaut tickets at events throughout the summer will receive a one-of a kind tour of Glenn’s main campus.
The daylong experience will include a presentation and question-and-answer session from
9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with former NASA astronaut Gregory H. “Box” Johnson, a stop at the Glenn gift shop and tours of Glenn’s world-class space and aeronautics test facilities from 10:30 to 4 p.m. Tours will include the:
- 8×6 Supersonic Wind Tunnel for testing high-speed aircraft models
- Altitude Combustion Stand for testing engine components
- Electric Propulsion Laboratory for testing spacecraft thrusters
- Flight research aircraft hangar
- Simulated Lunar Operations lab where rover tires are tested
- Zero Gravity Research Facility for microgravity science experiments
For those who do not have a Golden Astronaut ticket, Glenn is hosting an anniversary celebration in its Visitor Center at Great Lakes Science Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event is open to the public and will feature exhibits, demonstrations and activities.
At 12:30 p.m., Johnson will speak with the audience and answer questions about his experience as a space shuttle pilot and space station astronaut. A graduate of Park Hills High School (now Fairborn High School) in Fairborn, Ohio, Johnson is available for interviews after his presentation.
