What makes your job at NASA exciting or unique?In a world which has evolved so rapidly in the last 50 years thanks to technological innovation, it feels very important to be on the cutting edge of so many new developments which influence the lives of so many people. NASA is not only a leading scientific organization; it is also one of the most powerful brands on the planet. It captures the imagination of children and adults alike, and brings many answers, explanations, and now, striking images for questions which have always been at the forefront of mankind: we gaze up at the stars, and ask ourselves who we are, and where are we going. NASA allows people to search through these questions and to support our self-development.
How does your position contribute to the future Artemis missions?My work is to present NASA’s science and discoveries to the general public, making this information more digestible for them, especially kids. This not only helps citizens in their quest for knowledge, it also reinforces the efforts to gain support and momentum for NASA’s initiatives. The Artemis missions to the Moon are very important, if we think that the Moon the most highly visible and high profile celestial object. The fact that the first woman will be landing on the Moon is key to awaken many girls’ minds and help them think all is possible if they persevere. Sharing information about Artemis is key to maximizing the profile of NASA.
What’s your favorite thing about working for NASA? It is very fulfilling to be at the front of new discoveries, and to share this information with a public which is very thirsty for more knowledge about the night skies and space. I feel part of an organization where everyone is deeply committed to the common goal of finding fascinating data to give answers to the fundamental questions of the human race, and even to raise new questions, as more discoveries are made.
Why is working in a diverse environment critical to our mission? Diversity is absolutely key to our mission. When we look out at space, at that moment, all barriers such as language, color and race disappear. Only at that moment are all human beings exactly the same. Space exploration is the perfect concept for telling us that we are one and the same under the night sky.
