This week in 2004, Gravity Probe B was launched from Vandenburg Air Force Base atop a Delta II launch vehicle. Developed by Stanford University and Lockheed Martin, Gravity Probe B was an experiment designed to test two predictions of Albert Einstein’s general theory of relativity. NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center managed the mission for NASA. Here, the space vehicle is encapsulated atop the Delta II launch vehicle in preparation for launch.
