On July 1, Jessica Taylor (left) and Sarah Crecelius (right) led SciGirls Role Model Training for members of NASA Langley’s WIN (Women’s Informal Network) program. The training introduced attendees to seven research-proven strategies for engaging girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). During training, participants reviewed real-life scenarios and how to incorporate the role model strategies into career activities and day-to-day experiences.
“We wanted to provide this training to the WIN community, because it aligns well with WIN goals,” Taylor said. “They are already in a role model position, and incorporating SciGirls strategies on STEM engagement can make a real difference.”
This was the first time a SciGirls Role Model Training session was conducted at a NASA center. They will use feedback from this session to plan other SciGirls training sessions.
“All participants were engaged and interested,” Crecelius said. “We hope they feel better equipped to inspire young girls into STEM careers.”
“SciGirls” is a PBS Kids show that encourages girls in STEM fields of study.
