A team of NASA engineers and technicians developed a new surgical suturing device in 1994 at the Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards, CA. The device improves safety and reduces the time it takes surgeons to close the small abdominal wall incisions after endoscopic surgery. The instrument was made as part of NASA’s effort to transfer technology outside traditional aerospace applications. The instrument has been used successfully in surgical operations.September 29, 1994
