Astronaut Bruce McCandless II, along with Astronaut Kathryn D. Sullivan (out of frame), was in a standby mode to perform a spacewalk if needed to support Hubble Space Telescope (HST) deployment and post-deployment tasks on the STS-31 mission.

Sullivan (out of frame), was in a standby mode to perform a spacewalk if needed to support Hubble Space Telescope (HST) deployment and post-deployment tasks on the STS-31 mission. None was needed. Attired in thermal undergarment, McCandless works his way out of the bottom portion of the extravehicular mobility unit (EMU) on the middeck.
