Research in applying aerodynamic drag reduction techniques to ground vehicles was conducted at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s. A cab-over-engine tractor-trailer was modified with the extensive fairings around the cab and a completely sealed gap between cab and trailer, reducing aerodynamic drag by more than 50 percent.Aerodynamic Truck Studies fact sheet March 31, 1976
