Additive manufacturing (AM) technology has the potential to enable on-demand manufacturing, production of otherwise difficult to manufacture geometries and permit fabrication of ultra lightweight components critical for spaceflight. Integrated methods for microstructure and property prediction of AM components are not currently available but are critical to the realization of desired part design and performance combinations. Our interdisciplinary research team aims to develop, configure and integrate models of material behavior to simulate AM processes and predict properties. These models will be validated using experimental builds.
