Akatsuki (also known as PLANET-C) studies the causes for the disparities between Venus and Earth to provide answers about the formation of Earth and to help us better understand climate change. Built by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Akatsuki studies the vertical structure and circulation of Venus’s thick clouds.

The Deep Space Network provided communication and tracking services to Akatsuki through its 34 meter antennas.
