Researchers with NASA’s Short-term Prediction Research and Transition Center monitored hurricane Michael as it made landfall between Tyndall Air Force Base and Mexico Beach, Florida, on Wednesday, Oct. 10. Check out the imagery captured by the GOES-East satellite.
NASA Names the Rocketeers: 2019 Student Launch Teams Announced
Two weeks after submitting proposals, teams for the 2019 NASA Student Launch competition have been selected. The challenge — to be held near NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, on April 4-6, 2019 — features 52 middle school, high school and college teams from 21 states. Student Launch challenges teams to design, build, test and fly a reusable, high-powered rocket carrying a payload that meets the guidelines outlined in the handbook.
Winners of Project Mars Competition Selected
Winners of the Project Mars International Film and Art Competition have been selected from more than 570 entries that visualize NASA’s work to expand the frontier of deep space exploration. The competition provided an opportunity to allow college students and early career professionals to learn about NASA’s deep space exploration efforts including the agency’s Orion spacecraft, Space Launch System rocket and Gateway planned near the Moon, and create their vision of what NASA’s leadership in deep space will look like.
NASA Opens Registration for 25th Annual Human Exploration Rover Challenge
Registration opened Oct. 11 for student teams to participate in the 2019 NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge, organized by Marshall. The challenge, celebrating its 25th year, will take place April 12-13, 2019, at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville. Registration for international teams will close Dec. 13; U.S. team registration closes Jan. 17.
