NASA ER-2 Earth resources aircraft # 809 carried the Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) and the Cirrus Digital Camera System heads aloft on another survey mission over the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The main objective of the AVIRIS project was to identify, measure, and monitor constituents of the Earth’s surface and atmosphere based on molecular absorption and particle scattering signatures. Research with AVIRIS data was predominantly focused on understanding processes related to the global environment and climate change.May 13, 2010NASA / Regan Geeseman
