Bio:

Levi Golston is a fellow in the NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP), where he works in the Trace Gas GRoup (TGGR) at Ames Research Center. Previously, he studied Environmental Engineering and earned a PhD from Princeton University in 2019 and B.S. from the University of Oklahoma in 2013. Levi is interested in improving emission estimation methods for small-scale area and point sources, such as natural gas wells and animal feedlots. His focus has primarily been on methane (CH4) and ammonia (NH3) gases measured with laser-based sensors on moving (vehicle and drone) platforms. This includes the development of a lightweight CH4 sensor to meet the strict size and weight constraints of small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS), and validation of corresponding novel leak detection and quantification algorithms. At Ames, Levi is working on projects including using sUAS to measure CH4 fluxes from wetland areas, satellite-based quantification of SO2 from eruptive activity at Kilauea, and testing instrumentation for upcoming airborne field deployments.
