White Sands Test Facility is a Gold Leader, the highest level of membership in the New Mexico Environmental Department’s Green Zia Environmental Leadership Program.

The Green Zia Environmental Leadership Program (GZELP) is a voluntary statewide environmental leadership program, overseen by the New Mexico Environment Department’s Pollution Prevention Program. The overall goal of the program is to produce real environmental improvements, such as source reduction, reduction of air emissions, hazardous materials, water and energy use, and inclusion of pollution prevention practices.

GZELP has recognized White Sands Test Facility’s commitment to environmental stewardship and commitment to continuous improvement with the presentation of multiple Green Zia Awards.

Green Zia Awards

Although the Green Zia Awards program was replaced with the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Leader levels of membership, the New Mexico Environment Department honored White Sands Test Facility with multiple Green Zia Awards for our commitment to environmental excellence.
Organizations that participated in the New Mexico Environmental Department’s GZELP were eligible for Green Zia Awards.
The award recognized a commitment to environmental excellence in seven key areas including leadership, employee involvement, planning, and process management for continuous improvement and was given in three categories:

  • Achievement Award recognizes organizations that have turned their pollution prevention programs into prevention-based environmental management systems and can demonstrate measurable results.
  • Commitment Award is given to organizations that have made strong commitments to pollution prevention and are establishing basic, systematic pollution prevention programs.
  • Excellence Award recognizes organizations that have fully integrated pollution prevention in all areas of their organization.
