High School Students Shadowing NASA Mentors on Ground Hog Day

You think you know what career you would like to enter but you really need to get more information. How do you go about getting this info to pursue your future?

For 19 local high school students, they will get this opportunity to explore their future as they follow in the shadow of employees from the NASA Wallops Flight Facility during the annual National Job Shadow Day on February 2.

The junior and senior grade students represent seven high schools in Accomack, Worcester and Somerset counties.

For the day the students are paired with NASA employees that work in fields related to the students’ chosen careers.  This will give the students the opportunity to follow employees, participate in their research and other activities, and explore their careers.

Joyce Winterton, Wallops Senior Advisor for Education and Leadership Development, said, “This is the fourth year that students have been invited to participate in National Job Shadow Day at Wallops. Most of these students have shown an interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers.  Through their participation, these students will gain a better understanding of their selected careers helping them  to plan and prepare for higher education and future employment.”

In addition to mentoring by Wallops employees, during a lunch-time session the students will receive information on internships and career possibilities with NASA.
