NASA Glenn to Update Public on Impending Research Support Building Construction

NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland invites the public to spend an evening learning about an upcoming demolition and construction project at its Lewis Field campus during an informational meeting at the North Olmsted Public Library on Oct. 12. The program begins at 7 p.m. in the large conference room and is free of charge.

Construction of the Research Support Building is scheduled to begin during the summer of 2018.

Members of Glenn’s Facilities Division will begin the presentation with a brief history of Lewis Field and details on its recent designation as a historic district. They will also provide an update on Glenn’s Facility Master Plan, which details a multi-year effort to renovate or replace Glenn’s World War II era buildings and facilities to meet NASA’s 21st century missions and create a more energy-efficient campus. Finally, a project manager from architectural firm TEN Arquitectos will discuss the design and construction of Glenn’s new Research Support Building (RSB).

Glenn’s impending project involves demolishing Building 21, one of the center’s oldest buildings, and replacing it with a state-of-the-art facility creating a Campus Center at Lewis field. The 75,000-square-foot RSB will provide office space to 240 permanent occupants as well as house Glenn’s cafeteria, meeting rooms and other support functions.

Demolition of Building 21 is planned to take place during 2017 and 2018. Construction of the RSB is scheduled to begin during the summer of 2018 with full occupancy expected in 2020.

Questions and comments relating to Glenn’s Master Plan and upcoming demolition and construction projects will be welcome throughout the meeting. Those who cannot attend or choose to provide feedback at a later time can send comments by mail to Les Main, NASA Glenn Research Center, 21000 Brookpark Rd., (M.S. 21-2) Cleveland, OH 44135 or by email to leslie.a.main@nasa.gov. All comments must be received by Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016.
