NASA Glenn’s Wayne Wong Wins Asian American Engineer of the Year Award

CLEVELAND – During a ceremony held in Dallas on March 2, Wayne Wong, an aerospace engineer at NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, was recognized as the Asian American Engineer of the Year.

Wong was among 19 Asian American engineers, scientists and executives from industry, academia and government agencies who received national honors as part of the 2013 National Engineers Week program.
Dr. Jih-Fen Lei, director of Research and Technology at Glenn, introduced Wong during the black tie award ceremony for his exceptional leadership and impact in the development of an advanced Stirling convertor that dramatically improves the efficiency of space radioisotope power systems and that will enable future NASA science missions.
Wong’s contributions and impact within the Cleveland Asian American community were highlighted. He has been a leader for events such as the annual Cleveland Asian Festival, the Lunar New Year celebration and “Faces of Chinatown” Cleveland history project.
“It is a tremendous honor for me to be included with those recognized nationally among Asian American engineers and scientists. These awards put a national spotlight on the impact and many accomplishments of Asian Americans.” said Wong.
Asian American Engineer of the Year Award, or AAEOY, is a collaboration between the National Engineers Week Foundation and the Chinese Institute of Engineers, USA. This year’s event marks the 12th consecutive year that this national recognition has been held.
AAEOY is a platform to promote public awareness and respect for the professions of science, technology, engineering and math and those who work in these fields, a forum to celebrate cultural diversity and a tribute to the most distinguished Asian American engineers.
