NASA Meatball

Image of a painter freshening up the NASA logo.

A painter freshens up the NASA logo that adorns NASA Glenn Research Center's Flight Research Building, or airplane hangar. Affectionately coined "the meatball," the blue logo makes the hangar the most recognized of NASA Glenn's facilities. It is easily visible from Brookpark Road and I-480.

The Flight Research Building was built in the 1940s and is large enough to hold several aircraft of varying sizes. It is home to many unique and innovative aircraft, including the Learjet Model 25 and the Twin Otter Icing Research Aircraft. It also houses the Flight Operation Administrative Office, a pilots' lounge, flight-planning areas, a full-scale metal battery and an avionics shop.
