Honoring Black History Month: Meet Deschzunell ‘DJ’ Catlin.

What do you do at NASA and what is most interesting about your role here?

I work in NASA’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate as an Operations Engineer. The most interesting thing about my role is the ability to work with experimental aircraft planning and conducting flight tests.

How do you help support Armstrong’s mission and how long have you worked here?

In the 8 years I have been at the Armstrong Flight Research Center I have worked on various flight research, earth science, and space science projects by supporting research, design, and integration; as well as ground and flight operations. I help by ensuring we are flying airworthy aircraft.

Why did you choose to work at NASA and what has been the highlight of your career?

Working at NASA was a childhood dream of mine. I have been fascinated with flight my entire life. The highlight of my career at NASA has been seeing the Aurora Australis while flying on SOFIA conducting astronomy near Antarctica.

My biggest inspiration is the excitement I see on the faces of children when I talk to them about NASA and STEM.
