Did you know art has helped tell the story of human space exploration for over 50 years? Artists have helped capture and convey the excitement and wonder of it all. But did you know that the astronauts themselves integrate artistic expression like music, painting, and photography into their own lives while living and working on the International Space Station?

In the latest STEMonstration episode, NASA astronaut Nicole Mann explores how space exploration both inspires and affects art. Learn about the creative solutions astronauts employ to overcome the challenges of doing art in microgravity. Be inspired by this digital gallery full of space-themed artwork created by astronauts on station and students here on Earth. In the corresponding classroom connection, your students will tap into their own creativity to create personal masterpieces based on astronaut observations of Earth.

K-ESS3-2. Ask questions to obtain information about the purpose of weather forecasting to prepare for, and respond to, severe weather

3-ESS2-1. Represent data in tables and graphical displays to describe typical weather conditions expected during a particular season.

5-ESS2-1. Develop a model using an example to describe ways the geosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and/or atmosphere interact.

MS-ESS2-5. Collect data to provide evidence for how the motions and complex interactions of air masses results in changes in weather conditions.

HS-ESS2-7. Construct an argument based on evidence about the simultaneous coevolution of Earth’s systems and life on Earth.
