
Mark Weyland
Director of Health Operations and Oversight
Mark Weyland is the Director, Health Operations and Oversight within the Office of the Chief Health and Medical Officer (OCHMO) at NASA headquarters in Washington, DC. His primary responsibilities include ensuring the use of human and animal subjects in NASA-sponsored research are done ethically and lawfully, manage implementation of the Health and Medical Technical Authority, ensure health, medical, and performance requirements for spaceflight are applied correctly, and translate research findings into operations.
Mr. Weyland received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Radiological Health Engineering and a Master’s of Science degree in Health Physics from Texas A&M University.
Mr. Weyland began his career at the Johnson Space Center in 1989 working in radiation safety and sitting console in Mission Control for the Space Radiation Analysis Group (SRAG). Since that time, he has served in both contractor and federal positions with increasing responsibilities. These positions include SRAG manager, Environmental Factors Branch Chief, Deputy Chief of the Space Medicine Division, Associate Director in the Human Health and Performance Directorate, and Deputy Director of Human Resources.
