Dawn (Elliott) Martin, Ph.D., CPE

Aerospace Engineer

Dr. Dawn (Elliott) Martin is an aerospace engineer at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. She is responsible for Commercial Crew Program (CCP) flight crew equipment to ensure the spacecraft work environment is safe and efficient for astronauts.

Experience

Dr. Martin’s NASA tenure began at KSC as a flight systems engineer, then later as a research engineer at NASA Langley Research Center. She returned to KSC to support design teams for the International Space Station, Space Shuttle, and Exploration Ground Systems programs. She also served as a mission assurance manager on several Expendable Launch Vehicle (ELV) missions. Dr. Martin has been the chairperson for the selection of a multi-million-dollar government contract and has played a leadership role in other financial aspects of the space business. Earlier in her career, she worked as a safety and health specialist, performing safety inspections for high-hazard industries, verifying compliance with OSHA statutes, and participating in the promulgation of statutes.

Awards

Dr. Martin is a recipient of the Silver Snoopy Award, NASA’s top honor.

Education

Dr. Martin earned a Ph.D. in human factors and ergonomics from the University of Miami, a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Florida, and a master’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Central Florida. Dr. Martin is board certified in human factors engineering and holds a single-engine pilot’s license.
