Professional Bio

Jolene Feldman is a researcher in the Human Systems Integration Division at NASA Ames Research Center. More recently, she served as a subproject manager for a technical challenge focused on in-time safety management for emerging aviation operations. As part of the Airspace Operations Laboratory, her research team conducts studies to evaluate human-machine interactions for graphical user interface displays that present predictive hazard and risk services to operators of multiple simulated small uncrewed aircraft systems operating in complex, urban airspace. These investigations include developing tools that support risk assessment, monitoring, and mitigation to ensure safe operations. Jolene’s research also includes examining how pilots, for example, create and maintain safety – with a focus on resilience and identifying human contributions to safety through various methodologies for both traditional and emerging aviation operations.

Jolene’s previous areas of research include investigations into pilot nutrition and performance, general aviation pilot instruction and weather-related decision making, procedure evaluation of commercial airline checklists, and types of procedures training to operate systems in a simulated ISS habitat, the generalizability of such training, and the use of procedure automation to complete tasks. Prior to joining NASA, Jolene began her career at NASA Ames as a graduate student and contractor in 2000.
