Lunar Surface Systems Integration

Eric Perritt supports NASA’s Moon to Mars initiative as a system engineering and integration team member conducting analysis for the lunar surface effort under the agency’s Artemis program. He is based at the agency’s John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida, working in NASA’s Exploration Ground Systems Program, and has been in this role since February 2023.

Experience

Perritt started his career with NASA in 1994 as a space shuttle payloads electrical engineer and became a lead electrical engineer during International Space Station Multi-Element Integrated Testing in the late 1990s. Following this, he was moved to an integration engineer supporting payloads and became a payload test director by the early 2000s.

In the 2005-2006 timeframe, he became special assistant to Kennedy’s Deputy Center Director at the time, Bill Parsons. He joined Kennedy’s Legislative Affairs in 2006, and in 2007, he became a NASA Legislative Fellow, working for Senator Thad Cochran for one year. Following his return to Kennedy in 2008, he joined the Constellation Program, where he worked on ground processing planning for the lunar lander and lunar surface systems. When the Constellation Program ended, he became the mission operations lead for NASA’s CRYOSTAT mission, which involved planning flight operations for a satellite that would be storing and transferring cryogenic fluids.

From approximately 2012 to 2022, Perritt worked on Artemis ground operations planning, primarily for Artemis II through IV, including Gateway element ground processing. In fall of 2022, he started supporting NASA’s Moon to Mars exploration initiative as the lunar surface logistics systems manager until moving into his current role.

Education

Perritt was born in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, calling two cities in Pennsylvania and four cities in New York home during his childhood. He attended Penn State University in Pennsylvania and received a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering with a minor in engineering mechanics in 1993.

Personal

Perritt currently resides in downtown Orlando near Lake Eola with his dog, Blackjack. He enjoys watching Penn State football; watching Star Trek, Star Wars, and Battlestar Galactica; working out; playing video games; socializing with friends; and spending time with his dog.
