Professional Biography

Dr. Ariel Deutsch is an early-career planetary scientist with expertise in surface processes, landscape evolution, and volatile supply, modification, and loss processes on airless bodies. She works with various remote sensing datasets for the Moon, Mercury, Earth, and Mars, and employs a combination of machine learning, geological analyses, and statistics in her work. Ariel is currently a member of NASA’s VIPER Science Team, the NASA SSERVI RESOURCE Science Team, and ESA’s LUMIO Science Team. She also works in Artemis Crew Training. Ariel joined NASA Ames Research Center / Bay Area Environment Research Institute in the fall of 2022 after two years as a NASA Postdoctoral Program Fellow. Before that, she earned her Ph.D. at Brown University, while also a NASA Graduate Fellow at Goddard Space Flight Center. Ariel’s career in planetary research began in 2013 when she worked as an undergraduate intern in NASA’s MESSENGER Science Operations Center.
