NASA Science Council

The Science Council (SC) provides advice and recommendations to the NASA Chief Scientist (CS) to help enable NASA to meet its scientific goals and promote a healthy scientific culture across the Agency.

The primary functions of the SC may include:

  • Support the health, morale, and welfare of the NASA research workforce;
  • To provide advice and recommendations to the CS;
  • To serve as a forum to discuss Agency policies, practices, and issues impacting the science community;
  • To provide consistent messaging for internal and external audiences regarding science throughout NASA;
  • To help the NASA Centers and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) address issues related to science and science workforce, and to promote science integration and cooperation;
  • To help the CS in recognizing outstanding science achievements and scientists within and outside the Agency;
  • To promote a research culture with the highest level of scientific integrity among the NASA research community; and
  • To help foster innovative and transformational science research.
