About
Minority University Research and Education Project (MUREP) Precollege Summer Institute (PSI) is designed using evidence-based effective strategies to enhance high school students’ precollege performance, prepare them for college entrance, and ultimately achieve success in their higher education pursuits and in STEM careers. Without the fundamental support provided by federal programs such as MUREP PSI, students from groups traditionally underrepresented and/or underserved in STEM fields may be less likely to consider or pursue STEM college degrees and careers, thereby limiting the talent pool of highly-qualified candidates.
PSI Specific Goal
Utilize NASA’s missions of research, development, and discovery to attract high school students to STEM and equip them with the tools necessary for success in college STEM degree programs leading to STEM careers.
PSI Objectives
- Enhance students’ STEM identity, skills, and knowledge by engaging them in NASA based authentic STEM learning activities;
- Increase students’ preparedness for STEM college degree programs by building a powerful connection to a HBCU or PBI, faculty mentors/advisors, and peers who share interests in STEM; and
- Increase students’ awareness of STEM careers by enabling connections to STEM professionals and NASA’s missions.
How To Apply
The NASA Research Announcement (NRA), entitled Engagement Opportunities in NASA STEM or EONS, solicits education proposals in support of NASA’s Minority University Research and Education Project or MUREP. Awards are made through a competitive solicitation process that is coordinated through the NASA Solicitation and Proposal Integrated Review and Evaluation System (NSPIRES) website and grants.gov. To learn about new project elements and all amendments to this NRA, proposers should subscribe to NSPIRES.

NASA Helps Fund Minority Institutions Preparing Students for College
High school students from traditionally underrepresented and underserved communities will have a path to pursue careers in STEM with help from NASA. The agency announced Monday it has selected seven Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and one Predominantly Black Institution (PBI) to receive more than $3 million in funding to strengthen their support for students in those communities in precollege summer programs around the nation.
