The Near Infrared Volatile Spectrometer Subsystem (NIRVSS)

The Near Infrared Volatile Spectrometer Subsystem (NIRVSS) is a NASA Ames-designed instrument that is one in the suite of instruments onboard the Resource Prospector (RP) rover planned for launch in 2020. The instrument will characterize the variability of the lunar surface and detect volatiles in soil extracted from the surface by the rover’s drill subsystem. An Engineering Test Unit of the rover and payload suite, including NIRVSS, will be tested at Kennedy and Johnson Space Centers this summer.
