Shining Stars: The Women Mathematicians of America’s Space Program

In honor of Women’s History Month, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and NASA leadership celebrate our shining stars — the women mathematicians of our space program. As the nation marks the 50th anniversary of the historic Moon landing, four women stand out as having been instrumental to our success: Christine Darden, Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson and Dorothy Vaughan. The four women were recognized at the House of Representatives’ annual Women’s History Month reception.

The story of these women has also been chronicled in the book Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly, and in a movie with the same title.
