In high bay 2 inside the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, ground support technicians monitor the progress as a crane lowers one of the gear assemblies removed from the 50-year-old crawler-transporter 2 (CT-2). Sections of the crawler’s treads were removed to allow access to the gears. CT-2 is being upgraded to ensure its ability to handle the load of NASA’s Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft.
