Students attend NASA Stennis ASTRO CAMP

An image shows a participant taking part in the weeklong Astro Camp at NASA’s Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, on June 12, 2012. More than 400 Mississippi and out-of-state youth visited for the camp. During interactive camp activities, participants investigated the science behind 21st century space travel, particularly related to the International Space Station, which has been the focus of much of NASA’s research the previous decade. After learning about the space station and how astronauts live and work aboard the orbiting space laboratory, Astro Camp teams were asked to design a human outpost for one of three distant destinations in our solar system: the Moon, Mars, or an asteroid. Participants also visited INFINITY Science Center, the official visitor center of NASA Stennis.
