2019 STEP Cohort Face-to-Face Meeting at Glenn Research Center and Plum Brook Station.

On the final day of the event, the group visited Plum Brook Station and heard about the upcoming Orion environmental testing. In addition, the Cohort members met and interacted with SMA representatives of Glenn in their specific disciplines.nnThe Cohort members also earned on-the-job training by discussing how the SMA disciplines are utilized in each facility, and reviewing hazards in operations through a real-time exercise at the Plum Brook Station Space Environments Facility. The training exercise required review of technical drawings prior to a physical walkthrough of the facility where Cohort members located and identified components in the systems used to create the needed environments in the world’s largest vacuum chamber. Engineering terms and an understanding of the design were used to assess hazards in the facility. Reliability and Maintainability of the facility was reviewed along with Quality control aspects, software control systems, and Operational and System Safety aspects of facility operations.
