RESOURCE – Public Outreach and Engagement

Citizen Science / Science Activation / Public Engagement (CS/SA/PE):

RESOURCE also has a CS/SA/PE Lead (Dr. Alexandra Matiella Novak, Johns Hopkins University / Applied Physics Lab) who will organize and participate in myriad CS/SA/PE activities. RESOURCE has partnered with multiple NASA Science Activation teams and will

  1. Provide content and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for the OpenSpace data visualization project at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) as well as AMNH partner institutions including the Houston Museum of Natural Science, North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, California Academy of Sciences, and Denver Museum of Natural Science,
  2. Provide women SMEs to encourage young girls to pursue STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) careers through the SETI Institute’s “Reach for the Stars: NASA Science for Girl Scouts” program, and
  3. Deliver online seminars through the NASA Museum Alliance network to reach thousands of educators at museums, science centers, planetariums, etc. around the country. We have also teamed with Howard University, a Historically Black College & University (HBCU), to help develop highly effective STEAM teachers who then elect to serve in either urban schools or in education systems with a predominantly marginalized student population. These teachers in turn inspire future STEAM students from underrepresented communities as part of the pipeline to STEAM technical careers.
