NASA members represented the United States delegation at the World Administrative Radio Conference in Geneva, Switzerland. The United States was one of 87 countries that revised the Radio Regulations, the international treaty governing the use of radio frequency spectrum. This was the first time that the Radio Regulations was completely revised since its establishment in 1906. Two significant items that came about this revision were a direct result of the emerging use of the radio spectrum for spaceflight: the Table of Frequency Allocations was extended from 10.5 GHz to 40 GHz and new satellite radio communication services were defined.
