Museum educators from seven states participated in a Small- to-Medium-Sized Museum Workshop at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility Aug. 19-21.
The program is designed to provide museums access to the latest NASA science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) content.
Participants received a $2,000 honorarium to develop new and enhanced exhibits to share Goddard Space Flight Center’s unique science and engineering programs, focusing on middle school students and families. In addition, participants toured the Wallops Visitors Center and engaged in site visits with Wallops scientists and engineers at the Sounding Rocket, Scientific Balloon, and Aircraft offices, as well as the Range Control Center.
“Wallops is an excellent location for showcasing Goddard’s latest accomplishments in engineering and science because it shows how engineering is integral to Goddard’s missions and projects,” said Amanda Harvey, workshop project manager for Goddard.
Small group activities with education and public outreach experts in heliophysics, planetary science, earth science and engineering from Goddard’s Greenbelt campus and Wallops provided workshop participants the opportunity to explore new ideas for NASA-themed exhibit design and program development
The follow-up phase of the program includes group webinars in September and October and completion of an individual final plan for a new NASA exhibit or program.
