About the Organization

The Program and Projects Directorate develops and executes the major spaceflight and complex projects at NASA Ames Research Center.

The Program and Projects Directorate (Code P) also hosts program offices and managers that oversee projects involving all of NASA and organizations external to the agency.  Our customers and stakeholders include the NASA mission directorates, other NASA centers, other directorates at NASA Ames, other federal agencies, universities, and industry partners. The most senior program and project managers report to the Director.

Project managers that do not report to the Director are part of the Project Management Division (Code PX.)  Our project managers have expertise in technical management, systems engineering, mission operations, scheduling and budget controls, risk management, and other project disciplines.   Project managers are trained to ensure that projects are on budget and on schedule while meeting customer requirements and following Ames standards for safety, quality, and technical excellence.

The New Opportunities Center (NOC) supports the strategic development of new business at NASA Ames.  This includes the development of proposals for major spaceflight projects, and supporting researchers throughout Ames in developing research and technology project proposals.

We also provide support and expertise so that project managers all throughout Ames can be successful. We lead the Project Management Community of Practice at Ames, enabling the sharing of best practices and lessons learned in project execution. We support the development of project leaders through formal training classes, technical conferences, seminars, and developmental work assignments.
