NASA Leadership, Congresswomen Visit Ames, See Wildfire Fighting Tech

NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy, Associate Administrator Bob Cabana, and U.S. Congresswomen Anna Eshoo and Zoe Lofgren will visit NASA’s Ames Thursday, April 13, and hear from NASA Ames Center Director Eugene Tu alongside NASA researchers and partners about their innovative approach to wildfire management and resiliency.

NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy, Associate Administrator Bob Cabana, and U.S. Congresswomen Anna Eshoo and Zoe Lofgren will visit NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley on Thursday, April 13, and hear from NASA Ames Center Director Eugene Tu alongside NASA researchers and partners about their innovative approach to wildfire management and resiliency.

The occurrence of wildfires and other natural disasters is only expected to increase as changes in climate create warmer and drier conditions. Media are invited to join NASA leadership for presentations about the latest developments in airspace management and earth science technology that will make wildfire operations safer and more effective.

Ames will host a media availability with Melroy, Cabana, Tu, Eshoo, and Lofgren at 3 p.m. PDT, where NASA researchers and wildfire partners will demonstrate their work alongside displays of a wildfire communications system, small, medium, and large-sized drones, and more. Remarks will be given after demonstrations and media will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Media interested in participating must RSVP by 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, to the Ames Office of Communications by email at arc-dl-newsroom@mail.nasa.gov or by phone at 650-604-4789.
