STS-121 mission specialist Piers J. Sellers, wearing a training version of the space suit used for extravehicular activity (EVA), participates in an EVA simulation while anchored to a training version of the shuttle’s robotic arm in the Space Vehicle Mockup Facility at Johnson Space Center. The robotic arm has a 50-foot boom, which would be used to reach underneath the orbiter to access tiles. Lora Bailey (right), Manager, JSC Engineering Tile Repair, assisted Sellers. Astronaut Michael E. Fossum (center) also participated in the testing the arm.Image credit: NASA
