Wallops Flight Facility is providing a STEM Takes Flight (STF) service learning real-world experience April 6-8 for 13 students representing 6 Virginia Community Colleges. The students are currently participating in a pilot GIS Service Learning online course offered by Thomas Nelson Community College. This opportunity is funded by the Virginia Space Grant Consortium. The students are collecting Near Infrared and HD near infrared imagery and true color imagery using Phantom 2 and Phantom 3 quad-copters. The opportunity is supported by the Wallops research range, advanced projects and environmental offices. It will provide important data for the Wallops coastal resilience efforts. This activity supports The Committee on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Education or CoSTEM goal to enhance the STEM experience of undergraduate students.
