Engineers unload ground support equipment for a June engineering test flight above Kauai, Hawaii. The test flight is part of NASA’s Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator (LDSD) project, which is investigating cutting-edge landing technologies that could fly on future Mars missions.

In this image, a plane is delivering the test device and related cargo to the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kauai. The first launch window begins the morning of June 3.
