This astronaut photograph of the southern shoreline of Lake Michigan, including Indiana Dunes National Park, was taken on Dec. 4, 2020, by Expedition 64 crewmember Soichi Noguchi of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency from his vantage point aboard the International Space Station. The park area was authorized by Congress in 1966 as the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and was redesignated as the nation’s 61st national park on Feb. 15, 2019.
