The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument that flies aboard NASA’s Terra satellite captured an image of smoke from multiple fires burning in Washington, Oregon and Idaho on Aug. 19, 2015, at 2:20 p.m. EDT (18:20 UTC). The multiple red pixels are heat signatures detected by MODIS. The smoke appears to be a light brown color.
