Suomi NPP satellite captured an image of fires burning in Turkmenistan.
NASA’s Suomi NPP satellite collected this natural-color image using the VIIRS (Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite) instrument on January 15, 2016. Actively burning areas, which appear to be along the banks of the Amu River in Turkmenistan as well as the Ahal region which borders Iran and Afghanistan along the Kopet Dag Rang mountain range, were detected by MODIS’s thermal bands and are outlined in red.
