NASA Invites Public to Share NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope Image Reveal

NASA Invites World to “Glow Golden” for Webb Telescope’s First Images

NASA is inviting the public to take part in virtual activities and events as we celebrate the James Webb Space Telescope’s release of its first images. NASA, in partnership with ESA (European Space Agency) and CSA (Canadian Space Agency), will release the full set of Webb’s first full-color images and spectroscopic data during a televised broadcast beginning at 10:30 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, July 12, from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. Learn more about how to watch the reveal.

Released one by one, these first images from the world’s largest and most powerful space telescope will demonstrate Webb at its full power, ready to begin its mission to unfold the infrared universe.

Each image will simultaneously be made available on social media as well as on the agency’s website at: nasa.gov/webbfirstimages

Glow Gold

To celebrate NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope’s image releases, the Empire State Building in New York City will light its tower gold on Monday, July 11, starting at sunset until 2 a.m. the following morning. NASA invites cities around the country and world to participate in “glowing gold for Webb.”

The public can also view the new Webb images on several digital screens in New York in Times Square and in London’s Piccadilly Circus on July 12 beginning at 5:30 p.m. Eastern in New York and 10:30 p.m. GMT in London.

Webb Community Events

The public can also join in the excitement of Webb’s first full-color images by attending one of the many official Webb Space Telescope Community Events taking place across the country this summer. The list of events celebrating Webb’s first images is available online and updated frequently.

Opportunities for Students, Teachers, Educators

What do you think we’ll discover when we #UnfoldTheUniverse? Show us what you believe the Webb telescope will reveal by creating art. You can draw, paint, sing, write, dance — the universe is the limit! Share a picture or video of you and your creation with the hashtag #UnfoldTheUniverse for a chance to be featured on NASA’s website and social media channels. More About the Mission

The James Webb Space Telescope is the world’s premier space science observatory. Webb will solve mysteries in our solar system, look beyond to distant worlds around other stars, and probe the mysterious structures and origins of our universe and our place in it. Webb is an international program led by NASA with its partners, ESA (European Space Agency) and the Canadian Space Agency.
