NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland is opening its doors to students to raise awareness of manufacturing careers and to inspire the next generation of manufacturers on Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

“To achieve our mission of exploration and discovery, it is critical to have a workforce that can take complex ideas from the drawing board to real-life,” said Rob LaSalvia, chief, Office of Education at Glenn. “Students will have an opportunity to see how teams of engineers, researchers and technicians work together to design and prototype aeronautics and space hardware during Manufacturing Day 2018.”

Learners from the following schools will attend the event:

  • Beaumont School in Cleveland
  • Benedictine High School in Cleveland
  • Davis Aerospace and Maritime in Cleveland
  • Parma Senior High in Parma, Ohio
  • St. Edwards High School in Lakewood, Ohio

During the event, NASA engineer William J. Taylor, will speak to students about the roles required to design, develop and ultimately deliver a flight experiment to the International Space Station. Other activities will include a panel discussion, science and engineering demonstrations, virtual and augmented reality activities, and test facility tours.

NASA Glenn Manufacturing Day 2018 is a collaborative effort between Glenn’s Office of Education, local educational institutions, and the Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network, or MAGNET.

Media interested in attending should contact Jeannette Owens at 216-433-2990 or jeannette.p.owens@nasa.gov by noon on Monday, Oct. 29, to register for a NASA visitor’s badge. Please include your name, citizenship, news organization and time of arrival in the message.
